The Rose City Area Historical Society, Inc. was incorporated in July, 1983 as a non-profit organization for the purpose of identifying and collecting historical information and preserving family genealogies and histories. Since it's inception in 1983, the Society has accumulated extensive historical data including microfilms of all available County Newspapers. The Ogemaw District Library in downtown Rose City has provided a "historical research room" for the Society holdings and former Latter Day Saints History Library Genealogist Donnie Boursaw is available to assist researchers on Mondays and Wednesdays. Many LDS research aids are available in the research center and local volunteers help to collect, categorize and maintain the many local histories, photographs, genealogies, oral histories, alumni records, and newspaper clippings in Society files.

Working in conjunction with the Ogemaw County Clerk's office, Society members have duplicated marriage and death records and provide uncertified copies for a small fee.

Members have also compiled burial records for local Ogemaw cemeteries and are currently photographing tombstones at area burial grounds. Members also help to clean and maintain abandoned early cemeteries. Indexes are being compiled of the earliest newspapers (births, deaths and marriages), early county records, and burials. The Society has also published several booklets: CIVIL WAR LETTERS (Written by Sgt. Major Charles H. Church to his parents at Williamston, Michigan); ROSE CITY, MICHIGAN, 100 YEARS, 1905-2005 (a pictorial history for the Centennial Celebration of that town's incorporation); PHEBE IN WONDERLAND (Written by Phebe Dunlap Cotton and reprinted with photos---Her memories of growing up in Lupton, Michigan); NELL'S STORY OF LONG AGO (written by Helen Migan--Memories of the Prescott area); LONE PINE FARM (written by Glendora McCracken Fitzgerald---growing up in Lupton); and IMAGES OF AMERICA - OGEMAW COUNTY (published by Arcadia Publishing-a history and pictorial representation of Ogemaw History)--also available is PRESCOTT COMMUNITY IN PIONEER HISTORY (written by Ervadeen Hosbach)-- all booklets are available through the Society.

Rose City Society members are also developing and maintaining the free Michigan GenWeb Ogemaw site on-line; and answer questions when possible at several on-line genealogical message boards and by mail. Meetings are held April through November on the second Tuesday of each month at the Lion's Club Log Cabin in Rose City Park, 110 North Williams Street, Rose City. Yearly membership dues are $10.00.
