MRS. CARRIE GALLOWAY

Carrie Starks was born in Elmira on November 9, 1885. She spent the first 17 years of her life in her hometown, then went to Elmira, N.Y. to attend the Elmira Academy. In the fall of 1904, she returned to Michigan and entered the normal school at Mt. Pleasant, where she graduated from the rural course the following year. She was a very successful teacher for three years in the same school near Vanderbilt. She was married to Albert Galloway on November 9, 1907 and lived in her own home just across the street from her parents. After two years of happy married life, she died of peritonitis in Lockwood hospital, Petoskey, on January 2, 1910. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian Church January 5, at two o'clock. Rev. Mr. Young preached words of comfort to the sorrowing friends. Interment was at Maple Hill cemetery. Her life was one of purity. She was an affectionate daughter and sister and in her own home she was a loving and gentle wife. The community has sustained a great loss and her friends an irreparable one.
