HIRAM WINTERS DIED AT LOGAN

DEATH CALLS CIVIL WAR VETERAN
OF VANDERBILT

Resident of County about 50 years;
Old age cause of death

Hiram S. Winters, of near Logan, and a Civil War veteran, died last Thursday morning, January 5, the day of burial of Mr. Caldwell, who was also a Civil War veteran.

Mr. Winters was born at Cleveland, Ohio, September 29, 1848, and has operated or managed a farm in the county for nearly fifty years.

He entered the Union army during the Civil War, and was in active service, being wounded and has suffered from the wounds.

August 1, 1866, he was united in marriage to Miss. Cynthia Bickford of Allegan, Michigan, and to this union seven children were born, six of whom survive, as well as the widow.

About twenty-five years ago he was confined to his home, his illness resulting from wounds received in the army, and from the result of being kicked on the knee, which resulted in his becoming a cripple. About fourteen years ago it was necessary for him to use crutches to get about the house.

Those of his immediate family who survive are, his widow, Mrs. H. S. Winters, Mrs. Ella Rush, Mrs. Leon Winters, Mrs. Bertha Morse, Mrs. Effie Galloway, Mrs. Grace Galloway and LeRoy Winters.

Three sisters and one brother also survive, Mrs. Lena Payne, Mrs. Otis Wilson, Mrs. F.E. Morgan and Thomas Winters.

Funeral services were held at the home Sunday, with interement in the Vanderbilt Cemetery, Rev. W.C.L. Phillips officiating.
