Johnny Curtis

Inscription on stone: Johnny, son of Benjamin and S. L. Curtis, died January 6, 1873, aged 4 years, 6 months, 14 days.

Epitaph, transcribed by Loekie Boersma:

" Were it not for me my parents dear,

I am not dead but resting here.

I was not yours but God's alone,

He loved me dear and took me home."

Loekie Boersma writes : "Johnny's stone is special because it was taken out of a tree 20 feet north of where we finally placed him. The tree had grown around both sides of Johnny's stone and the tree had to be chopped away to retrieve it."

Benjamin Curtis enlisted as corporal in Co. B , 5th MI Cavalry, on August 27, 1862, at Tallmadge, MI. He was mustered out on June 20, 1865, at Leavenworth, KS.

Benjamin Curtis, age 43, farmer, born NY, Sarah L. Curtis, age 37, wife, born NY.

Children: Cyrus Curtis age 18, Charles Curtis, age 16, Ellen Curtis, age 13, Oscar Curtis, age 11, Cora Curtis, age 9, George. Curtis, , age 7, Rushman Curtis, age 3, John Curtis, age 1.

Benjamin Curtis died on December 13, 1902 in Preston, Franklin, Idaho.
