Mary Catherine Thurkettle Doane

Mrs. Mary Catherine Doane, daughter of John and Catherine Thurkettle, was born in Allendale, Michigan, May 6, 1873, and died of measles, in Chicago, June 6, 1901, aged 28 years and one month.

She was married to Albert Doane July 4, 1891, and the last six years of her life she spent in Chicago.

Her parents, five brothers, four sisters, and her husband survive her. She also leaves two children, Katie and Clarence, seven and nine years old respectively.

Her illness was short, being of but four days. The day before she died she appeared to understand that her time was short, for she requested to be prayed for and to have old familar hymns sung to her. She seemed to be happy in her last hours.

It had always been her wish that when she died she might be brought to Allendale and buried by her sister. This wish was carried out on Sunday, June 8, 1901. The funeral was held in the Congregational Church on Wednesday, June 12, 1901, by the writer, in the absence of the pastor. Text, Isaiah 38:1
