Cummings Family Bible
provided by Richard Cummings

I am the great great grandson of one Ezra F. Cummings, who died in Hazelton Township c1870. Ezra, along with two of his four children: died at Hazelton Township - Almond Gibson Cummings (b 21 Jun 1851 - c1865) and Nancy Maria Cummings (b24 Dec 1854, died as an infant.)

There were two more children born to Ezra and Mary Bain Cummings in Hazelton Township, Albert Eugene Cummings (b 29 Feb 1856) and Alvin Jay Cummings (b 17 Dec 1860.) Mary, Albert and Alvin (my great grandfather) are all buried in the Cummings plot at Brown's Cemetery, West Fort Ann, Washington County, NY. That is the birthplace of Mary Bain Cummings. Husband Ezra and wife Mary are not buried together.

What is left of family lore has it that Mary was quite disagreeable and Ezra went west after the birth of their first child to get away from her. It seems that is all that was required in those days in order to get a divorce. Mary, however, followed him. They must have patched things up because they had three more children while they were there. Mary didn't waste any time leaving apparently. Soon after Ezra died, Mary and the two surviving children returned to her ancestral Fort Ann, Washington County, NY.
