.  Some of the spelling and some handwriting is questionable.  I tried to copy  just as it appears, but did add some explanatory notes when I noticed changes.  I hope this may provide some clues to some unsolved problems in your research. Some people had multiple admissions. Most dates are discharge dates.  Editor.

Persons at the County House The next pages are copied from old records of persons in the County House.  The first part seemed to go in chronological order with some notations of deaths and other information. Then came a section noted as deaths. However, later this section seems to be scattered with some random admissions and discharges that are not clear if they are death or discharges.  There were also many pages of names of persons being treated for medical problems. However, the doctor seemed to have known them all very well and only used first names, so they are not copied heresince October 12, 1868

  • Sometimes a word such as Canada, American, Irish, etc. is inserted. It appears to indicate nationality. There is no notation to explain it.
  • Spellings are transcribed as accurately as possible. Sometimes the old writing is hard to decipher.
  • Order of list is maintained. Shows some residents re-admitted over time.
  • Not all people who went to the County House were poor. Some went for medical treatment.
  • The County Burial ground was near the current Almer cemetery but across the road.
  • Some abbreviations are as listed and meaning is unknown
  • Several children were sent to Coldwater. That was the location of the State school. At one time it was the policy to send children of a certain age there if the family had to seek assistance, regardless of the wishes of relatives.
  • Notation “went away” is unclear if they went of their own will, or if they were discharged.
  • The last portion of the list of deaths does not seem to be all deaths. Information will need to be verified.
