The following are the names of those pupils of the public schools who have been neither tary or absent since the rules respecting tardiness, and absence were adopted, by the Board of Education, six weeks after the opening of the term: John Thompson, Minnie Persons, Perry Crowell, Willie Eaton, George Haverly, Thomas Hall, Neil McNeil, Mariette Russell, Ida Eales, Minie Rice, Thomas Carnarthen, John McArthur, Cornelius Spain, John St. Peter.

A very large number had not a single mark against them, till our schools were visited by the mumps, and it is thought by the teachers that the above list might have been several times longer but for this misfortune. The importance of punctual and regular attendance was clearly shown in the results of the examinations week before last. Those pupils who had been regular in their attendance were, almost without exception, mush better prepared to go on with their classes than those who had been irregular, or out even but a short time; not taking into account the loss of time and consequent loss of lessons, cause by a few days or weeks of absence, the discouragement to the pupil, is an element of vital consequence, and one which we fear, is not sufficiently considered. A pupil may indeed make up his lost lessons, but it is hard to recover from discouragement. We hope that parents will see to it, that their children are regular and punctual in their attendance upon school duties, and then the pupil will not only acquire a habit of punctuality, invaluable to them in after life, but will be able to make such progress in school as can be made only under these conditions.
