Hagle Jr., 79, of Redford and formerly of Kinde, died Thursday, March 3, 2005. He was the loving husband of the late Anna Carpenter, and the late Constance Forester; and the devoted father of Colette Petras, Shirley Dukes, and Camille Lievense from his first marriage, and Pamela Merritt, and Robert Forester from his second marriage. He is survived by his dear sister, Joyce Czewski, of Ubly. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ellis and Willett, and a sister, Margaret. He was the dear grandfather to nine, and great-grandfather of three. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 25350 Plymouth Road, Redford. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Carol Opanasenko Carol J. "Cookie" Opanasenko, 60, of Bay Port, passed away Friday, March 4, 2005, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon following a six-month illness. She was born August 17, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas to Chester and Lucille (Peters) Durst. She was a homemaker throughout her lifetime, enjoying fishing, outdoor work and just being busy. She also enjoyed going up north to her family's property. She is survived by her partner of 35 years, Walter Opanasenko, of Bay Port; three children, Benny Howard, Terrie Ratliff and her husband, Jeff, and Troy Thompson, all of Bay Port; seven grandchildren; one great- grandson; a sister, Betty Girdwood and her husband, David, of Comfort, Texas; and her mother-in-law, Nastia Opanasenko, of Bay Port. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with the Rev. Douglas Mater, pastor of the Bay Port United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in New Bay Port Cemetery. Frederick Wisenbaugh Frederick Wisenbaugh, 63, of Harbor Beach, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2005, in Harbor Beach Community Hospital Long Term Care Unit. Frederick was born to the late Gerald and Dorothy (Arntz) Wisenbaugh on December 23, 1941. He was a diesel mechanic for Dan's Excavating, and served in the U.S. Army. Fred is survived by his wife, Carol (Tenbusch) Wisenbaugh, of Harbor Beach; sons, Mike Wisenbaugh and his wife, Vicki, of Bad Axe, and Frederick Wisenbaugh and his wife, Lori, of Bad Axe; daughters, Tami Razo and her husband, Ed, of Harbor Beach, and Kimberly Stomach and her husband, Brian, of Ubly; 17 grandchildren; brothers, Ed Wisenbaugh and his wife, Marilyn, of Bad Axe, Jerry Wisenbaugh and his wife, Gloria, of Harbor Beach, and Tim Wisenbaugh and his wife, Elizabeth, of Warren; and a sister, Elizabeth Kinney. Monday, March 7, 2005 Edward S. Kloski Edward S. Kloski, 75, of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Huron Medical Center. Ed was born to the late Edward and Emma (Chappa) Kloski, Sr. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea, was a huge Detroit Tigers Fan, and loved playing his accordion. Ed is survived by his brother, William Kloski, and his wife, Christina, of Fraser, and his nieces and nephews: David Kloski, Timothy Kloski, and Rebecca Howie. Funeral Mass for Edward Kloski will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church with the Rev. T.J. Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation for Ed will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday in the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday in the church. Tuesday, March 8, 2005 Sophia Cornett Sophia Cornett, 99, died on Monday, March 7, 2005. She is survived by loving nieces and nephews, Grace White, Jeanette Hertzog, Mildred Hrabovsky, Lucille Wisneski, Betty Vigenski, Beatrice Mayes, Mary Wolf, Eleanor Okray, Leona Vinegar, George Lemanski, Gerald Cornett, Norman Cornett, Louise Dominick, Gladys Shoemaker, Gloria Frank, Lorraine and Judith. She will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2004, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 1234 Washington Boulevard., Detroit, Michigan. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rapson. Arrangements were made by A. H. Peters Funeral Home of Grosse Pointe Woods. Alan F. Johnson Alan F. Johnson, 78, of Bad Axe and Port Austin, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at his home. He was born January 21, 1927 in Bad Axe to the late Arthur and Grace (McKnight) Johnson. He married Theresa Laughlin on June 27, 1953 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. Alan attended Bad Axe schools until his family moved to Holly. He was a 1944 graduate of Holly High School. He was a graduate of Wayne State University's College of Mortuary Science. He was a funeral director for the MacAlpine Funeral Home for more than 40 years. Alan was a co-owner of the funeral firm from 1973 until his retirement in 1990. Alan served in the U.S. Navy. Alan was a member of the Bad Axe Lions Club and the Port Austin American Legion. He was on the Board of Incorporators for Huron Medical Center. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing cards with friends and family. Surviving are his wife, Theresa; two daughters, Mary Smith and her husband, Bob, of Midland, Julie Fortier and her husband, Tim, of Flushing; one son, Paul Johnson, of Berkley; one sister, Jean Clark, of Aurora, Ohio; one brother, Arthur Johnson, of Portland, Oregon; and six grandchildren, Elisha and Monet Johnson, Graham and Emily Smith, and Stephanie Guerre, and Drew Fortier; and several nieces and nephews. Alan was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Halboth. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2005, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home of Bad Axe with Mike Gage officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. James Spade Jr. Mr. James Loyde Spade, Jr., 73, of Ubly, passed away Sunday evening, March 6, 2005, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility of Bad Axe after a long illness. He was born May 3, 1931 in Wyandotte to the late James L. and Mabel (Kreft) Spade, Sr. He married Lucille Pero on May 11, 1950. He married Margaret Reiche on December 16, 1993 in Bad Axe. Jim attended the Ecorse Elementary School #1 and the Ecorse High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Unit. He lived in Lincoln Park from 1950 to 1953, in Flat Rock from 1953 to 1965, in Newport from 1965 to 1991, and in Ubly from 1991 to the present. He was a welder on the Alaskan Pipeline in 1976 for a short time. He was employed at Spade's Tackle Center and Boat Livery in Ecorse. Jim was a pipe fitter for 47 years and was a member of the Pipe Fitters Local #636 in Detroit for 30 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #542 Olive Branch in Dearborn and the American Legion Post #0426 in Trenton. He served on the Austin Township Board. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, euchre, NASCAR, and gardening. Jim's favorite flower was the pansy. Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret Reiche Spade, of Ubly; seven children, Janet Batron and her husband, Tom, of Homer, James Spade III and his wife, Diana, of West Branch, Jeffrey Spade and his wife, Engrid, of Brighton, Jenean Shown and her husband, Richard, of Flat Rock, Jason Spade and his wife, Darlene, of New Boston, Joni Gallo and her husband, Joe, of Ann Arbor, Jonathon Spade of Flat Rock; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard Spade, of Brownstown, Karl Spade, Sr. and his wife, Jeanette, of Georgia; two sisters-in- law, Sharon Wells, and Susan Pellegrino and her husband, Rick, both of Harbor Beach; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by one sister and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly by the Verona-Huron Masonic Lodge #365 F. and A.M. and with military honors provided by the Ubly Veterans. Cremation will take place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund. Michael Harold Sternberg Michael Harold Sternberg, 62, of McEwen, Tennessee, passed away on March 1, 2005. He was born December 22, 1942 in Bad Axe to Harold Sternberg and Katherine Ritter. Harold was killed during World War II in France. Michael graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1961. Michael is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Tanner) Sternberg, of McEwen, Tennessee; his mother, Katherine, of Fraser; daughter, Julie Bramlett, of Waverly, Tennessee; grandchildren, Cory Sternberg, Brittney Bramlett, and Lindsey Bramlett; special uncle and aunt, Pete and June Hebert, of Bad Axe; cousins, Diana and Roger Burley, of Virginia; Sallie and Scott MacGregor, of Bad Axe, Pete and Pat Hebert, of Ann Arbor, Charles and Andrea Hebert, of Rochester Hills. A funeral service was conducted on Friday, March 4, 2005. The minister was Bro. Josh Hannah. Humphreys County Funeral Home in Waverly, Tennessee handled the arrangements. Burial was in Wyly Cemetery in Waverly, Tennessee. Wednesday, March 09, 2005 Philip N. Buckminster Philip N. Buckminster, 88, of East Lansing, died on Monday March 7, 2005, at the Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. He was born July 27, 1916 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Buckminster in Wilcott, New York. He married Eleanor McIntyre in December 1969 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Philip was a graduate of University of Michigan and Wayne State University. He served in the United States Army from 1939 to 1945. Philip was employed by Ford Motor Company for about seven years and was employed at Chrysler company until his retirement in 1978. Mr. Buckminster was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in East Lansing. He was active in many service organizations and clubs in Washington, D.C., and the Kiwanis Club of East Lansing. Philip was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, and spending time with his extended family. He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor (McIntyre) Buckminster, of East Lansing; one daughter, Ellen Clarke Buckminster, of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Yvonne B. Hartley, of Wolcott, New York; five sisters-in-law, Dee McIntyre, of Okemos, Faith Livingston, of Shelby Township, Sharon Morrison, of Napa, California, Maria Kroha, of Dansville, California, Jeannie Pfister, of Howell; one brother-in-law, Charles McIntyre, of Danville, Connecticut. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2005, at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Township. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will be in the St. Columbkille Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the donor's favorite charity. Thursday, March 10, 2005 Russell C. Edwards Russell C. Edwards, 93, of Harbor Beach, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at his home. Russell was born on April 24, 1911 to the late Arthur and Ellen (Cowper) Edwards. He and Sarah Weiss were united in marriage on June 29, 1935 in Harbor Beach. She preceded him in death on April 24, 1984. Russell was a farmer and worked at the Ruth Farmers Elevator for over 26 years. He is survived by his daughter, Delaray Dean and her husband, Mike, of Harbor Beach; five grandchildren, Kathy Aumann and her fiance, Paul Fent, Mike Shemka and his wife, Judy, Steve Shemka and his wife, Carol, Paul Shemka and his wife, Toni, Jennifer Peyerk and her husband, Duane; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Russell was preceded in death by a brother, Wilfred Edwards and his wife, Marie; a grandson, Russ Aumann; and a great-grandson, Jacob Russell Shemka. Julia Rounds Julia Rounds, 62, of Fort Myers, Florida and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in Fort Myers following an extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Irene Rutkowski Miss Irene Rutkowski, 89, of Ubly, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe after a long illness. She was born March 11, 1915 in Minden City to the late Frank and Katherine (Grifka) Rutkowski. She never married. Irene worked for GM Fisher Body in Detroit for 30 years. She was a World War II B24 Wing Assembler. She was a resident of the Detroit Poletown area for years before moving to Ubly in 1970. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and was a member of a Pokino Club. She also enjoyed vegetable gardening. Irene is survived by one sister, Theresa Miller and her husband, Clements, of Fraser. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Leo, Enock, John, Stanley and Martin Rutkowski; and three sisters, Dorothy Ulfig, Sylvia Cook, and Rita Jozefaciuk. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2005, at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. The Rev. Steve Gavit, pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth, will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the church.
