Fritz, 71, of Sebewaing, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at his home following a three-month illness. He was born September 27, 1933 in Sebewaing, son of the late August and Anna (Nietzke) Fritz. He was a 1952 graduate of Sebewaing High School. He was united in marriage to Marilyn R. Kaush on May 8, 1953 in Highland Park. Art had been employed by General Motors at the Hydramatic Plant in Ypsilanti for 30 years before retiring in 1983. He and his wife resided in Alpena for 12 years before moving back to Sebewaing in 1995. Art enjoyed playing cards and watching sports. He was an avid U.S.A. Patriots fan. Surviving, besides his wife, Marilyn, are one son, Ronald Fritz and his wife, Pam, of Taylor; four daughters, Diane Gombos and her husband, Mike, of Taylor; Nancy Murray and her husband, Danny, of Dearborn Heights, Shirley Priskorn, of Redford, and Marlene Schubert and her husband, Mike, of Bremerton, Washington; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Aldine Lombardi, of Ypsilanti; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Robert Fritz; and four sisters, Esther Zielinski, Mabel Takacs, Alma Bledsoe and Doris Ellison. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Daniel Hahn will officiate with cremation to follow at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Millie Jacoby Millie Jacoby, 94, of Unionville, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2005. She was born in Saginaw on January 19, 1911, the daughter of John and Marie Elizabeth (Fischer) Ruppal. Millie married Jacob Jacoby on May 2, 1929 in Sebewaing. Together, they had been members of the Unionville Moravian Church for many years, where she had also been a member of the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday school. She was a past president of the Unionville PTA and she and Jake were king and queen of the Unionville Centennial Celebration in 1979. Surviving, along with Jake, her loving husband of 75 years, are their children, James Jacoby and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Unionville, Betty Brinkman and her husband, Robert, of Caro, and Bonnie Brinkman and her husband, Jack, of Cass City; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Harold Ruppal and his wife, Norma, of Akron; a sister, Clare Halabis, of Caro; and a sister-in-law, Genevieve Ruppal, of Akron. Preceding Millie in death were a daughter, Deborah Brinkman; brothers, Christopher, in infancy, John, Otto, Ernest, Ed, and Donald; sisters, Amelia and Dorothy, both in infancy, Emma, Elizabeth, and Martha; and a brother-in-law, Walter Halabis. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2005, at Moravian Church with the Rev. Clifford Randall officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Unionville Funeral Chapel and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. The family suggests memorials be given to the Moravian Church. Kelly Hunley Kinyon Kelly Kay Hunley Kinyon, 36, of Harbor Beach, passed away in Mesa, Arizona, on Wednesday, January 26, 2005. She was born on June 17, 1968 in Detroit and was the daughter of Jim and Gennia (Capps) Hunley. Surviving are her husband, Darren Kinyon, of Harbor Beach; her children, Kandice Phillips, Kristen Phillips, and Travis Phillips, all of Port Hope, and their father, Tony Phillips; her parents, Jim and Gennia Hunley, of Port Hope; a sister, Kathy Kzelakowski and her husband, Allen, of Harbor Beach; and a brother, Jimmy Hunley, of Port Hope. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2005, at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach with Chaplin Chuck Rondo, of the Forgotten Man Ministries, officiating. Cremation will follow at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Verna F. Sperkowski Mrs. Verna F. Sperkowski, 90, of Ubly, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2005, at the Fr. Murray's Nursing Home of Centerline. She was born July 19, 1914 in Ubly to the late Vincent and Josephine (Pollum) Rosinski. She married Aloysius Makowski in 1934 in Detroit. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1969. She married Leonard Sperkowski on November 26, 1977 at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2003. She attended an Ubly country school. She lived in Detroit with her first husband before moving back to Ubly in 1968. She was a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly and a member of the St. John Christian Mothers Circle 4, Queen of Angels. She also was a member of the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle #608 in Bad Axe. She enjoyed playing bingo and taking trips to Las Vegas. Verna was a loving mother and grandmother. Verna is survived by one daughter, Marlene Mager and her husband, Ronald, of St. Clair Shores; one son, Dennis Makowski and his wife, Carol, of Leesburg, Florida; five grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her six brothers and five sisters. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2005, at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. The Rev. Steve Gavit, pastor of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth, will preside. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery this spring. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly from 1:30 to 9 p.m. today, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the church. Their will be a rosary prayer led by the Christian Mothers at 3 p.m., a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., and a rosary prayer led by the Daughters of Isabella at 8:30 p.m., each on Sunday at the funeral home. Evelyn B. Will Evelyn B. Will, 82, of Harbor Beach, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 28, 2005, following an extended illness while staying at her home. She was born on April 1, 1922 in Detroit, the daughter of Paul and Amelia (Gerstenschlager) Kriewall. She married Roland Herbert Will on April 18, 1942. Evelyn (Evie) was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and was an avid bird watcher. Evie was particularly fond of cardinals and goldfinches. She loved music and enjoyed playing hymns and polkas on her organ. One of her greatest gifts was that of organization, to which she was known to say, "When everything has a place, every thing is in its place," and, "Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today." Roland and Evelyn Will celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in 2004. Evelyn is survived by her husband, Roland Will, of Harbor Beach; a daughter, Susan Lynn Bugg and her husband, Raymond M., of Harbor Beach; a brother, William J. Kriewall and his wife, Kathryn, of Harbor Beach; her grandchildren, Melissa Carrie Klump and Eric E. Klump, of Port Huron; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Kriewall; and three sisters, Dorthea Rodda, Gertrude Krueger and Eileen Moore. A memorial celebration for close friends and immediate family will be held at Roland and Evelyn's home on a later date. Monday, January 31, 2005 Edla Schlemmer Edla M. (Ertel) Schlemmer, 76, of Sebewaing, died Sunday, January 30, 2005, at Covenant Healthcare Cooper in Saginaw. She was born October 29, 1928 in Akron, daughter of the late Earl and Eva (Hart) Steele. She was united in marriage to Walter P. Ertel on February 16, 1950 in Owendale. He preceded her in death on November 17, 1980. She then married Arnold Schlemmer on December 25, 1991 in Sebewaing. He died August 4, 1999. Edla has been a cook at the Sebewaing Public School and Immanuel Lutheran School for many years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a former member of St. John Lutheran Church, Kilmanagh, and had been in the choir and a member of the ladies aid in Kilmanagh. Surviving are two daughters, one son, and their spouses, Ann Rutterbush and her husband, Jerry, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Timothy Ertel and his wife, Ana, of Sebewaing, and Faye Errer and her husband, Ken, Jr., of Owendale; grandchildren, Cory and Jaymelynnee Rutterbush of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ryan Ertel and Megan Ertel, both in Florida, Joshua, Wendy, Mindy, and Holly Errer, all of Owendale; one great-grandson, Cody Rutterbush, of Las Vegas, Nevada; one brother, two sisters, and their spouses, Robert Steele and his wife, Ruby, of St. Helen, Carolyn Ludwig and her husband, Ralph, of Mio, and Sharon Ball and her husband, Wesley, of Reese; brother- in-law, Larry Norrington and his wife, Jaclyn, of Akron; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Steele, and one sister, Marlene Norrington. Claude Sherman Claude Sherman, 88, of Unionville, died Sunday, January 30, 2005, at The Fisher Convalescent Home in Mayville following a lengthy illness. He was born October 21, 1916 in Reese, son of the late Clyde and Lillian (Wagner) Sherman. He was united in marriage to Ila M. Gotham on November 9, 1940 in Sebewaing. She preceded him in death on June 25, 1998. Claude had farmed in the Unionville area for many years and also had been employed at the Defoe Shipbuilding in Bay City before retiring 30 years ago. He also worked for Kemp Tiling and Michigan Sugar Company in Sebewaing. He later farmed for Ken Wildner. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Normandy, France. He was a member of the Sebewaing V.F.W. Post No. 4115, Sebewaing American Legion Post No. 293, and the Unionville American Legion Post No. 421. Surviving are eight daughters, two sons, and their spouses, Pearl and Richard Zaleski, and Hazel and Glenn Abbe, all of Owendale, Ernest and Shirley Sherman, Bonnie and Leo Fischer, all of Sebewaing, Rosemary and Gary Drews, of Grayling, Joyce and Frank Spencer, of Cass City, Gloria and Michael Buchinger, of Reese, Linda and Oscar Schmidt, of Vassar, Gail and Mike Osborn, of Caro, Leroy and Stella Sherman, of Akron; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Gradowski, of Lansing, Irene Grappen, of Bay City, Betty Parker, of Grass Lake; one brother, Chris Sherman, of Tennessee; many nieces and nephews. Marilyn Szarapski Marilyn Szarapski, 31, of Cass City, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2005, at her home. Tuesday, February 1, 2005 Ruth Iverne Nutzmann Ruth "Iverne" Nutzmann, 85, of Port Hope, passed away Monday, January 31 , 2005, in the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital after an extended illness. Born on November 6, 1919 in Edinberg, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Hartin) Mullins. On June 21, 1946, Iverne and the Rev. Lavern Nutzmann were united in marriage in Springfield, Illinois. She was a gifted seamstress making dresses and suits as well as clothes for their children. Iverne was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope and the Lutheran Missionary Women's League. Iverne is survived by her husband, the Rev. Lavern Nutzmann, of Harbor Beach; children, John Nutzmann and his wife, Joyce, of Mt. Morris, Paul Nutzmann and his wife, Elaine, of Deckerville; and daughter-in-law, Judy Baker, of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James, in 1993 and a grandson, Andrew, in 1985. Grigg Loren R. Grigg, 85, of Elkton, died Monday evening, January 31, 2005, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility after a long illness. He was born January 22, 1920 in Onaway to the late Russell and Ella Rose (Smith) Grigg and moved to Huron County in his youth, living in the Elkton area most of his life. Mr. Grigg was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the European Theater. After his return from the service, he was united in marriage to Dora Souva at the Methodist Church, Pigeon. Loren had been employed at H & R Libkuman Meat Processing, Elkton, for nearly 20 years and with the Elkton Petroleum Co-op also for 20 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton, having served as an usher and member of the administrative board for seven years. He served 21 years as a member of the Oliver Township Fire Department and was a life member of the Carpenter - Dorsch VFW Post, Elkton. Surviving are his wife, Dora "Tiny" Grigg; five children, Robert Grigg and his wife, Judy, of Bad Axe, Penny Woodward and her husband, Brent, of Elkton, Kitty Sampson and her husband, Bill, of Kinde, Russ Grigg and his wife, Cheryl, of Essexville, and Joe Grigg and his wife, Heather, of Saginaw; 13 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren; six sisters, Ella Mae Hollingshead, Ilene Young and her husband, Ken, Lucille Schember and her husband, Ken, all of Elkton, Dorothy Bouverette, of Caseville, June Nicol, of Deford, and Jean Kuhn, of Marion, Ohio; three brothers, Leonard Griggs and his wife, Betty, of Elkton, Jeff Grigg and his wife, Adeline, of Imlay City, and Carl Grigg, of Elkton; and many nieces and nephews. Born in Grinnel, Iowa on September 1, 1957, he was the son of Dewane Lindland and the late Yvonne (Soule) Lindland. Rick was a carpenter in the Midland area.
