She lived 86 active years and was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years Clarence, her parents Giovanni and Vittoria Matteoli, and her brothers Ledo and Vasco Matteoli. Mary was born in Arcata and met Clarence during the war. She chose to stay at home for her children and to aid her husband in his career as a home builder. The most important things in her life were God and family. She lived her life to serve both. Over many years she was an angel on earth to the many who needed her, providing meals or rides or company, extending herself as a friend to meet what ever need she could. Mary loved her husband and her children with all of her heart, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy, her badge of honor. There is nothing she wouldn't do for them. There was never a time when Mary didn't volunteer somewhere, including Sequoia Lifeline, The Eureka Rescue Mission, and over the last 10 years with the Northern California Community Blood Bank where she made many friends with staff and donors. She has been involved with her church for many years on various projects and she specifically loved making raffle baskets and helping to count money on Mondays. She was a kind and loving person and made countless lifelong friends wherever she went. She remained friends and in contact with many of her high school friends from so many years back. When she moved back to Eureka she was blessed to have found her new best friend who will miss her dearly, her next door neighbor Peg. Her lively spirit will also be missed by her Sunday Breakfast Club. She had many dear friends at her church who took her under their wings after Clarence passed. She worked hard to stay independent and she never wanted to ask for help. She lived her life to help others. She was wise and endearing, genuine and hardworking. She loved her garden and she enriched the lives of all who knew her. She is survived by her children Dan and Nancy Leppek, Sherry and Jon Dunn, Chris and Renee Leppek, Joe and Trudy Leppek, and Jo Anna and Bob Ow: her grandchildren Duane and Suzannah Nason, Kadin and Jen Leppek, Trevor Leppek and Sierra Rhoden, Ashley, Tayelor, Jennifer, and Justin Leppek, Matthew and Michelle Conley, Tyler and Teresa Conley, Josh and Susie Conley, and her great- grandchildren Luke, Noah, and Jacob Nason, Devyn Leppek, Roweyn Leppek, Madelyn, Myla, Cade, and Colton Conley, Taleah and Treyce Conley, and Kyan Leppek; her beloved nieces and nephews Richard and Rhonda Matteoli, Marc and Jeanette Matteoli, Merijean and Kerry Glavich, Gina and Richard Bartlett, numerous great nieces and nephews and her best friend, Peg Van Doorn. A rosary will be on Thursday, November 13th at 7:00 pm at Sanders Funeral Home, Eureka. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 14th at 12:00 noon at Sacred Heart Church, 2065 Myrtle Ave, Eureka, with a reception at the church hall following the private interment.
