Lansing State Journal September 12, 1912
J.C. Naremore of Lansing Purchased Hostelry
Portland, Sept 12.- The Hotel Divine, owned by E.D. Woodbury and George W. 
Burhans, has been sold to J.C. Naremore of Lansing.  It was taken in part 
payment for the Carbaugh farm which fell into the hands of Mr. Narmore very 
recently.  The hotel is one of the largest and best small town hostelries in 
the state.
Until a few years ago it was known as the Welch House. Thomas Horner, who has 
been acting as clerk for some time, will now take up the management just 
resigned by Chester Divine.

Additional Comments:
December 24, 1899: Monroe B. Divine purchased the Welch House Hotel from Mrs. 
Mary Wilson of Philadelphia, PA, for consideration of $7,500. Mr. Divine died 
on Mar. 26, 1908 and upon his death, his son Chester Divine took over the 
management of the hotel.
