Adgate, 72, died Monday at Ionia County Memorial hospital following surgery. He was born June 24, 1892. Adgate was admitted to the Ionia County Memorial hospital late Sunday after he became ill. He had played gold Sunday morning at Morrison Lake golf course and in the afternoon played another round of golf with Mrs. Adgate. He underwent emergency surgery Sunday night. He was postmaster at Saranac for nine years serving from 1935 until 1944 when he was selected a rural mail carrier. He retired form the U. S. postal service in 1962. Active in affairs of his community, Adgate was a member of the American Legion and a veteran of World War I. He also belonged to No. 416 Telegraph Battalion association, was a life member of the Saranac Masonic order and member of the Saranac Oddfellows. He belonged to the Ionia Barbershoppers, Morrison Lake Country club, Saranac Community church and the Congregator’s club. At one time he owned and operated a clothing store in Saranac. Surviving are his wife, Olga; one son, Dorian of Boyne City; two grandchildren; and a brother, John of Saranac. Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Morris funeral home with the Rev. Eldon Cummings officiating. Burial will be at Saranac cemetery.
