Aelick was born in the township of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, Dec. 15, 1851, and departed this life June 23, 1917, aged 66 years, 6 months, 8 days. His early life was spent on a farm in Canada, and at the age of 21 years he went to Erie, Pa., where he spent one year, coming on to Michigan in 1873. On Sept. 20, 1881, Mr. Aelick was united in marriage to Miss Iadora Galloway of Berlin township. To this union was born one son, Earl J., who with his family reside in Big Rapids. For several years he followed the lumbering business, but in the year 1888 he purchased a farm in Douglas township, Montcalm county, where he resided until the spring of 1912, when he moved to Orange township, where he resided at the time of his death. Mr. Aelick was a member of the Methodist church at Entrican, where for many years he took an active part in Christian work. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Gleaners of Orange and the Masonic lodge at Stanton. Mr. Aelick always took an active part in political affairs, having served two years as treasurer of Douglas township, Montcalm county and was serving his third term as clerk of the township of Orange. He was a kind and loving husband and father, and his genial smile and friendly manner won him a place in the hearts of who knew him. The widow, son and wife, two grandchildren, one brother and a host of relatives and friends are left to mourn his loss. Mr. Aelick was a brother of David C. Aelick, for many years a resident of this city. Funeral services were held Tuesday June 26 from the LaValley church.
