Wave-Times, Friday, Sept. 17, 1920 DELAYED OBITYUARY The following obituary should have been run in this paper the week of Aug. 15th, but through a misunderstanding the copy was mislaid. Obituary Charles R. Baker was born in Oakland, Ontario, Canada, September 19, 1836, and died at the home of his son, O.R. Baker, in Newaygo July 15, 1920 aged 83 years, 10 month and 26 days. He was married to Mary Beemer September 27, 1858, and to this union five sons were born: Norman, deceased; Emerson, Tupperville, Ont.; B.F., Fremont, Mich.: Oscar, Adrian, Mich. and O.R. Baker of this village. In 1873 he entered the gospel ministry, was ordained in to the Freewill Baptist church February 13, 1876, and during the same year was received into the Regular Baptist church. In 1885 he moved to Michigan, accepting a call from the First Baptist church in Howard City. Other places in the state is which he served as pastor were Sebewa, Ionia county, Leroy, Luther and Alden. In 1892, on account of ill health, he was obliged to give up regular pastoral work. In 1906 he moved to this village with his son, O.R. Baker, and resided here until after the death of his wife, which occurred April 13, 1909. In 1910 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Alice Lapo of Lake Odessa, Mich., where he has since lived until his recent illness, which was due to a stroke of paralysis on July 5. Owing to the feebleness of his aged wife, he was moved here by his son and all was done that was possible to make his last days comfortable. He died a peaceful death and has passed on to his eternal home to be with his Savior whom he loved and served. Funeral services were held in the Baptist church, Rev. M.A. Liddie officiated.
