Bates, 31, of Lake Odessa and veteran of World War II, died Wednesday morning at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He had been hospitalized for 16 days and had undergone surgery ten days ago. He was born September 20, 1922, in Saginaw county the son of Frank and Hazel Bates. He was an employee of the Fisher Body Corporation in Lansing for the past five years and moved to Lake Odessa from Woodland two years ago. Surviving are his wife, the former Florence Myers; one son, Lewis Michael at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bates of Selkirk; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Bozick of Whittemore and Mrs. Jack Slee of Lansing; six brothers, Kenneth, Leslie, Russell, Clifford, Alwin and Donald, all of Saginaw county. Mr. Bates reposes at the Pickens funeral chapel where services will be held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 under the auspices of the LaVerne Demaray Post of the American Legion. The Rev. R. E. Spray will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.
