Mr. Bond was pilot on the first steamer that run on Grand river above Grand Rapids, the Humming Bird. Previous to that he ran a pole boat between Grand Rapids and up river points, carrying supplies to the settlers. He came to Ionia about 1840, and after the D. & M. railway was built, he settled on a farm in Easton. He was highly respected and well liked by his neighbors and died full of years and honors.
