Ionia Standard, 27 May 1904

Forrest Brown, the younger son of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Brown, who had been 
hovering between life and death for some days, with typhoid fever, died just 
before 4 o’clock last Friday.  The friends of the stricken parents will 
sympathize with them deeply in their sore loss.  He was such a manly little 
fellow.

The death of DeForest L. Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. F. Brown, was caused 
by the heart trouble, which had given apprehension for several days.  His age 
was 14, and he was a favorite in school, where his work was most creditable, 
and among his playmates.

The funeral service for DeForest Brown, at family residence on Harter street, 
was very largely attended Monday afternoon, showing the wide sympathy that is 
felt for the bereaved parents, and a general sense of personal loss.  The 
service was conducted by Rev. D. L. Martin, and the singing was by Misses Pearl 
Freeman and Kate Benedict.  The floral testimonials were numerous, including 
pieces from his Sunday school class and the classes in the public schools.  The 
afternoon session was omitted in the 7th and 8th grade rooms of the Grammar 
school and many pupils were present at the service.  The bearers, representing 
both the Sunday school and public school classes, were: Thurman Hutchins, Will 
Douglass, Ora Cook and Earl Hanigan.  Interment was in Highland Park.  
Relatives present from out of city were Mr. and Mrs. Walden of South Haven, 
parents of Mrs. Brown, and Samuel Brown of Detroit, brother of Mr. Brown.
