He was born in Ionia County, December 28, 1853 and had lived in the county all his life. He was a mason by trade, and was active up until his poor health several years ago. He was a member of the Woodland lodge and of the Oddfellows. He is survived by one son, William of Grand Rapids, and one daughter, Mrs. Lena Kernan of Ionia; ten grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Kate Burch of Lyons, Mrs. Mable Rouse of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Jennie Tasker of Sioux City, Iowa, and three brothers, Charles of Grand Rapids, John of Lowell, and Henry of Lansing. Prayer service will be held Saturday afternoon, August 8 from the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Florence Dawson, at 2 o’clock and from the Congregational church, at 2:30 o’clock. Rev. John Gehrig officiating. Burial will be at the Saranac cemetery.
