The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Wednesday, May 30, 1973
Mrs. Lula M. Durkee, 75, of Lake City, and a former Portland resident, died 
Tuesday at Mercy hospital in Cadillac after she reportedly suffered a heart 
attack.  Born in Cedar Springs September 22, 1897, she was a daughter of Mr. 
and Mrs. John Avery.  She was a life-long member of the Portland Order of 
Eastern Star but she and her husband moved to Lake City about 11 years ago.

Surviving are her husband, F. Hope Durkee, a brother, Fred Avery of Sagola; 
two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Cotton of Ellinwood, Kansas, and Mrs. Alice Smith 
of Portland.  The body is at Neller Funeral home where services are planned 
for 1:30 p.m. June 1, the Rev. Maurice Christenson of Portland Baptist church 
officiating.  Burial will be in Portland cemetery.
