December 15, 1867 he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Goodenough who departed this life January 23, 1930. To this union were born four sons, Jay and Morris of Odessa, Emery of Grand Rapids, and Ernest, who died at the age of ten years. Besides the three sons he leaves to mourn their loss ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one brother Reuben Eldridge of Sheridan and a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was converted during the pastorate of the Rev. B. A. Hammond and became a member of the Wesleyan church of which he was a member at the time of his death. He came with his parents to Michigan at the age of one year. He was one of the pioneers of Odessa, having lived at the present home for fifty seven years and has seen this part of the country grow from a wilderness to what it now is. In the presence of his family death came and took him peacefully away Monday afternoon after being confined to his bed for nine weeks. FATHER HAS FALLEN ASLEEP Father was tired and weary. Weary with toil and pain: Put by his glasses and rocker. He will not need them again. Into Heaven's mansions he entered, Never to sigh or to weep. After long years with life's struggles Father has fallen asleep. Near other loved ones we laid him. Low in the graveyard to lie, And though our heart are near broken. Yet we would not question "Why?" He does not rest 'neath the grasses Though o'er his grave they creep, He has gone into the Kingdom, Father has fallen asleep. Rest the tired forever. Dear wrinkled hands are so still. Blasts of the earth shall no longer Throw o'er our loved one a chill Angels through heaven will guide him. Jesus will still bless and keep. Not for the world would we awake him. Father has fallen asleep. Beautiful rest for the weary. Well deserved rest for the true, When our life's journey is ended We shall again be with you. This helps to quiet our weeping. Hark! angel's music so sweet, "He giveth to His beloved, Beautiful, beautiful sleep!"
