Ionia Daily Sentinel, 2 Jun 1911

Another link that binds the living present with the past, is broken.  Bessie
Bush was born in Ionia, September 9, 1876, and was the daughter of Frank and
Alice Butterfield Bush.  She was graduated from the Ionia high school in 1895,
and engaged in teaching in Ionia county and at Cedar Springs for several years.
 She was married to Dr. H.M. Farnham, December 27, 1899.  Five years ago Dr.
Farnham located in Macon, Ga., in the practice of his profession, assisted by
his wife, but for the past year her health has not been good, and on May 30 she
quietly went to sleep.  Fair lives to pulseless silence wed.  She died in the
prime of life, with all that made life dear about her.  While following the path
of duty the night of death descended; “God’s finger touched her and she slept.”
 Through the midst of our tears shines the rainbow of hope and of promise, for
the celestial gates will open widest to that soul, who in life on earth strove
hardest to aid the weak, to shelter the defenseless, to lighten the burden of
the most laden, and who brought the most smiles and fewest tears into the world.
 When silence and the calm came on it brought for her no terror, but instead,
the satisfying consciousness of duty will performed, and the world by her made
better.  From the voiceless lips of the unreplying dead there comes no word, but
in the night of death, hope sees a star, and listening love can hear the rustle
of a wing.  So let her sleep that dreamless sleep, our sorrows clustering ‘round
her head; be comforted, ye loved who weep; she lives with God; she is not dead.
 The pall bearers were classmates in high school: Thane Benedict, Bert Lampkin,
Harry McGowan, James Scully, Montgomery Webster and Henry J. Horrigan.  The
service of the Episcopal church was by the rector, Rev. Wilkinson, the singing
of two beautiful hymns by Mrs. Spencer and Mrs. Smith.

[Transcriber's Note: There is a notation on the obituary card that she was
buried in Highland Park Cemetery.]
