BELDING- Leonard A. Fitzjohn, 85, of 823 Pearl Street, Belding, a longtime 
Belding businessman and civic leader, died Sunday at Metropolitan Hospital, 
Grand Rapids.

 He was born Nov. 5, 1905, in Belding, the son of Arthur J. and Mary E. Stewart 
Fitzjohn. He was graduated from Belding Area High School in 1924 and from 
Kalamazoo College in 1931.

 He was for many years a salesman for the Belding Basket Factory and later was 
owner and operator of Fitzjohn Store for Men, retiring in 1972. After his 
retirement he worked part time as a purchasing agent for the City of Belding. 
He served for several years on the Belding City Council and for two terms as 
mayor of the city.

 Past president of the Belding Area School Board, as he was also past president 
of Belding Rotary Club and past master of the Belding Masonic Lodge, and past 
president of the Belding housing Commission.

 He was married to the former Esther Rowley on June 15, 1933; she survives.

 Also surviving is a daughter, Mary Newland of Greenville; a son, John L. 
Fitzjohn of Wilmington, Del.; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a 
sister, Mrs. Thomas (Margaret) Isles of Waterford; and a brother, Merrill 
Fitzjohn of Irvine, Calif.

 Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Johnson Funeral Home, the 
Rev. Dick Woodward officiating.

 Burial will be in River Ridge Cemetery.

 The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

 Memorials have been established for the First Congregational Church of Belding 
and the Belding Library, in care of the funeral home.
