Gustav H. “Gus” Galinaitis, 66, born Feb. 27, 1937 in Lithuania and joined the 
Heavenly Father on May 30, 2003.  

Gus came to American wit his family through New Orleans in 1952.  With his 
family, he worked on a farm in Kansas for the family that sponsored them to 
come to America then, moved to Stockbridge for a short time and finally 
settling with his family at the Hudson Farm in Portland in 1956. Gus proudly 
served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962.  He gained employed at 
Fisher Body in Lansing and retired after 30 years.  Gus enjoyed going to 
Florida during the winter months and returning to Florida periodically 
throughout the remaining seasons to “mow the lawn.”

Gus was preceded in death by his parents, August and Anna Galinaitis, and 
sisters, Adeline and Melody.  He is survived by siblings William Galinaitis of 
Portland, Oswald (Monika) Galinaitis of Webberville, and Erika (Lyle) Avery of 
Portland; nieces Christine (Mark) Simon and Catharine (Mark) Haworth, both of 
Portland; grand-nieces Heather and Nichole Simon and Grand-Nephews Cameron 
Simon and Michael and Matthew Haworth all of Portland.

Gus enjoyed visiting with people from all over the area and will be dearly 
missed by many.

He was laid to rest on Monday, June 2, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lansing 
next to his parents.  Services were conducted by Rev. Linloff and Rev. Buelow 
from Emanuel First Lutheran Chruch of Lansing.  Arrangements were caringly and 
professionally handled by Schrauben Lehman Funeral Home of Portland.
