Sept. 5, 2012 Magdalena "Maggie" (Rivera) Garcia, 63, of Ionia passed away on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012. She was born on Dec. 5, 1948 in Harlingen, Texas, the daughter of Manuel and Luduvina (Gonzalez) Garcia. Maggie was very involved in Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, starting the music for the Spanish Mass, as well as teaching Catechism to the Migrant children. Hobbies included singing and playing guitar. She had a song for everything, and loved to dance. Maggie was an outstanding cook, and enjoyed shopping and going out to lunch. Preceding her in death were her mother, Luduvina Garcia; elder siblings, Alvina Rosales, and Manuel Garcia Jr.; and nephew, Albert Rosales. Surviving are her daughters, Diana (John) Thrasher and Lea Magdalena Rivera; father, Manuel Garcia; siblings, Ruben (Louise) Garcia, Rosa (Mike) Link, Juan (Andrea) Garcia, and Annette (Ken) Burghardt; and many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ionia, with Rev. Luis Garcia presiding. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lehman Funeral Homes, 220 Rich St., Ionia. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
