Gierman died July 20, 2008, in Port Townsend, Wash., at age 91. He was born on January 1, 1917, to Robert Ernest and Nelly Effie (Meyers) Gierman in Sebewa Township, Michigan. He married Vera Margaret Sessions on Dec. 29, 1939. Maurice was a dairy farmer in Sebewa Township until his retirement in 1988. After retiring, he and Vera lived in Bradenton, Fla., and in Fairfield Glade, Tenn. Vera died in 2002 and Maurice relocated to Port Townsend, Wash. In addition to farming, Maurice served on the Ionia County Board of Commissioners. He enjoyed playing golf and bridge, and was fond of music, drawing, poetry, travel and hiking. Surviving are his son, Jan (Pamela Kalbfleish), Gierman of Grand Forks, N.D.; daughter, Deanna (John Boles) Pumplin of Port Townsend; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers Charles Albert (Pauline) Gierman and Robert Wilfred Gierman, and his sisters Christine (Lloyd) Jarchow and Pauline (Robert) Lily. A memorial service in Sebewa is being planned. ----------------------- A Memorial Service for Maurice Gierman, who died July 20, will be held Thursday, Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. in Sebewa Center United Methodist Church, corner of Bipley and Shilton Roads.
