Death Claims Two Pioneer Ionia Women

Mrs. Hamilton was the widow of the late John H. Hamilton.  Her death came at 
her home in the Holbrook apartments.  She was of pioneer Ionia county stock and 
bore the distinction of being one of the first white children born in the 
county.  She probably was the oldest living person born in the county and still 
remaining here at the time of her death.

Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. John B. Welch and she was born on the old Welch 
farm in Ionia township northeast of the city in June 1849.  She continued to 
live there until her marriage to John H. Hamilton after which she resided on 
the farm in Ronald until 35 years ago when she came to Ionia to make her home.

She is survived by two brothers, Amos Welch, Ionia and J. Darius Welch, now of 
Portland, Oregon.  She was preceded in death by her husband and her only son, 
Harry who died in 1925.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hamilton were to be held from the home at 2 p.m. 
today with burial in Highland Park cemetery.
