The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, December 9, 1989
Geraldine S. Hawley, 88, of Ionia died Thursday at Ionia County Memorial 
Hospital.  She was born Nov. 27, 1901, in Ionia, the oldest daughter of 
Anthony and Julia VanBuren Scully.

She was graduated from Ionia High School and Western Michigan University.  She 
taught at Battle Creek, Petoskey, Wyondotte and Ionia at the elementary level.

She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. 

Surviving are three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Kuhn of Lansing, Ethlynne Earl of 
St. Ignace, and Patrice Bailey of Traverse City; a stepdaughter, Kathryn Syre 
of Washington, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by 
two husbands, J. Bernard Griffin and Willard G. Hawley, one daughter, 
Geraldine Margaret, and two sisters and three brothers.  

Complete funeral mass will be offered at noon on Saturday at SS. Peter and 
Paul’s Catholic Church in Ionia.  Burial will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Memorial shave been established for Ionia County Memorial Hospital or SS. 
Peter and Paul’s Church.  Arrangements were made by Cook Funeral Home.
