Jan. 26, 2013 ROXIE MAE (GROVENOR) HEFFELBOWER Jan. 20, 2013 Hastings Reminder – Sat. Jan. 26, 2013 Roxie Mae Heffelbower passed away January 20, 2013. She was born January 29, 1930 in Grove, Kansas, the eldest of four children born to the proud parents of William (Anna) Grovenor. Roxie attended grade school in Missouri. As a child, Roxie picked cotton at age 10 to supplement the household income after her father (William) passed away. Roxie Grovenor attended high school while living in Freeport, which led her to meeting the love of her life, Howard. After many dances at Clear Lake or Charlton Grange Hall, Roxie and Howard tied the knot on August 2, 1947. They purchased a farm in the Clarksville area and shortly after a family of four children came to be, Sharon (Ken) Fawley; Richard (Joan) Heffelbower, Shirley (Robert) Slocum; Margaret Heffelbower. While dairy farming fulltime and raising four children, Roxie was active in many community activities, Michigan Milk Producers Association, Clarksville Bible Church, Life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Lake Odessa. In 1994, Roxie and Howard were inducted into the Michigan Farmers Hall of Fame in distinction of their life commitment of supporting the Michigan farming community. Roxie truly enjoyed her crocheting, and made many beautiful items to adorn the furniture in their home. Spear fishing in the river at night or bluegill fishing at Rice Lake, Canada; were always in her conversations. After retiring to Florida for 15 years and eating many great fish fries, Roxie and Howard returned to Michigan to enjoy their children, spouses, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren Roxie’s siblings include, brothers, James Grovenor, Herbert Grovenor and sisters, Louise (Chuck) Goostrey, Lynda (David) Hayden, Charlotte Savacool. Following cremation a memorial service will be held at a later date. Main St. Clarksville, Mi. 48815 on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment will be private at the Clarksville Cemetery.
