Higley, 72, of Ionia, died Feb. 20, at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born January 12, 1917, in Grand Rapids, the son of Henry and Clara Gott Higley. He graduated from South High School in Grand Rapids in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the former Grand Rapids Metal Craft from 1961-1973. He worked for Belding Products from 1974 until retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church of the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are his wife, Georgia Lee; three daughters, Cheryl Dennis of Ionia, Charlene Van Dam of Jenison and Norine Challender of Saranac; seven grandchildren; one brother, Harold of Grand Rapids; one sister, Virginia Mauk of Grand Rapids; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Maurice. Complete funeral services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m. from the Zion United Methodist Church in Ionia, with the Rev. William Dornbush officiating. Burial will be in Balcom cemetery. Visiting hours are 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cook Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the Michigan Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.
