J. (Jack) Hopkins, 64, of rural Ionia died last Saturday evening at Ionia County Memorial Hospital following accidental injuries at his residence. He was born in Ionia March 21, 1916 the son of Arthur and Edith Strong Hopkins. He attended Welch School and served with the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was married to Louella Elzey in Ionia on July 13, 1943. He had worked at the Ionia Manufacturing plant, a division of Mitchell-Bentley, for 17 years. He then worked at the Lake Odessa Machine Shop in the tool and die department. He later worked at the Chrysler plant in Lyons for 10 years before retiring in 1973. He is survived by his wife, Louella; three sons, Robert of Kinross, Mich., Gerald of Belmont, Mich., and Dennis of Coldwater; two daughters, Mrs. Judy Datema of Muir, and Mrs. Paul (Cindi) Ruehs of rural Ionia; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Thomas, of Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Linden (Maida) Lancaster of Kalamazoo, and Mrs. Wayne (Ruth) VanHouten of Ionia and Florida. Funeral services will be Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. from the Shiloh Community Church with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Committal services will be at the church. Burial will be in Saranac Cemetery. The family will be at the Leddick Funeral Home to receive friends and relatives Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Shiloh Community Church.
