Allen Z. Kauffman, 86, of Charlotte, formerly of Ionia, died at St. Lawrence 
hospital in Lansing at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, after being a 
patient there for six days. He had suffered a stroke five weeks before. 

He was born May 4, 1865, son of Allen and Hanna Kauffman of Plattsville, 
Ont. He married Nettie Belle Rowley in Ionia June 26, 1894. They lived here 
until 1900 when they moved to Rockford, Ill., for six years. They returned 
to Ionia to live until 1918 when they went to Owosso and Detroit. They 
returned to Ionia again in 1942 to live with a son, Dr. Victor Kauffman, in 
Charlotte. 

He was a former member of the Maccabees and the Masonic Order, both in 
Owosso, and attended the Ionia Church of Christ.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Kauffman of Charlotte and Walter D. Kauffman of 
Wilcox, Ariz.; one daughter, Mrs. Warren B. Carr of Saugatuck; two 
grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lorena Letts of Detroit and Mrs. Herbert 
Cooper of Brantford, Ont.; and three brothers, I. Newton Kauffman of Miami 
Fla., and Edward and Leslie of Brantford.

Funeral services will be held at the Boynton funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday. 
The Rev. Court O. Adams will officiate. Interment will be in the family lot, 
Highland Park cemetery.
