S. and Philo T. Bates. Mrs. Knickerbocker was one of the early pioneers of Ionia county, coming here a child of eight years, with her father, Philo Bates, in 1836. Her father’s death followed two years later. In her girlhood she taught school in the little stone school house upon the Sessions farm. In 1850 she married Chas. R. Knickerbocker, of Jackson, and that city has ever since been her home. She was the last living member of the Philo Bates family. Seymour B. Gorham, a nephew of deceased, left Wednesday evening to attend the funeral to be held this Thursday morning.
