Garnett Larene Munger, 83, of Muir, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at Spectrum 
Health East in East Grand Raids after suffering a heart attack.  Larene was 
born in Hartland on August 11, 1916, the daughter of Raymond and Mila DeGarmo.

Larene graduated from Hartland High School in 1934.  She married Russell Munger 
on April 21, 1935.  They purchased the John DeGarmo farm in Lyons Township in 
1942.  Larene, along with her husband, Russell, was a lifelong farmer and 
homemaker on their centennial farm in Lyons Township.  Larene also worked at 
the Chrysler Trim Plant in Lyons.

She will greatly missed by her surviving three daughters, Naomi Jean Freund of 
Novi, Wanda Marie (Bill) Shurlow of Ada and Betsy Lee (Carl) Koehnlein of Muir; 
six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy (Alvie) 
Patterson of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Duane (Delores) DeGarmo of Highland 
and Jay (Sally) DeGarmo of Bancroft. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Martin Munger on Dec. 15, 
1975, and her daughter, Lucinda Ann; three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at the 
Cook Funeral Home, Rich St. Chapel, with Pastor Ed Filter officiating.  
Interment services will be held at the Beebe Cemetery near Holly at 4 p.m. 
Wednesday.  Visiting hours will be from 2 until 4 and 7 until 8:30 p.m. today 
at Cook Funeral Home, Ionia.  Memorial contributions may be made to 
Huntington’s Disease Society of America.
