The Ionia Standard, Friday, January 19, 1906
The funeral service for Philander Peer was attended from the late home on 
State street, on Thursday 4th last, and beside the neighbors, there was a 
large attendance of the older friends of deceased from the city and county.  
Rev. E. E. Branch of the First Baptist church delivered the discourse in which 
life and its lessons were beautifully brought out, and Clark A. Preston, a 
long time acquaintance of Mr. Peer, added a splendid tribute as to the moral 
worth of deceased, whom he had known to be most upright, especially in the 
affairs of the home as well as in the avenues of business and social 
intercourse with men.

He bore open and public testimony on all proper occasions to his reliance upon 
the teachings of Christianity for the advancement of civilization and for the 
happiness of mankind and was studiously chaste in his daily walk and talk.  
The singing was by Mesdames Willis L. Peck and G. M. Phelps.  The carries were 
the two sons: Charles and W. C. of this city, and two nephews, Frank and 
Thomas Mitchell of Berlin township.  Interment was in Highland Park cemetery.
