The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, October 7, 1933

William (Billy) Pierce, 63, 318 Adams street, died in the Belding hospital 
Saturday morning following a n operation performed Friday.  The funeral 
services will be conducted at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with 
the Elks’ lodge giving the ritualistic services.  Burial will be in the 
Highland Park cemetery.

Mr. Pierce was born in Ionia, and had always lived here.  The greater part of 
his life was devoted in a humble way to service of the public.  He started as 
a bell boy in the Bailey hotel 45 years ago or more, and later worked for 26 
years for Henry Voelker, while the latter owned the barber shop in the 
location now the Spidle shop.  He was employed for a time at the Ypsilanti-
Reed factory, but of recent years had been janitor at the city hall and at 
Grooms’ barber shop.  He was industrious, honest, friendly and in every way 
earned the opinion held of him by a large group of friends, that he was one of 
Ionia’s most valued citizens.

Mrs. Pierce died several years ago.  He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Donald Working.
