Blaine Prater, 49, of West Lincoln Avenue, Ionia, died of accidental carbon
monoxide poisoning at his residence early Wednesday morning.

He was born in Salyersville, Ky., April 13, 1935, the son of Fred and Viola Rowe
Prater.  He moved to Michigan and was married to Leola Hawley in 1956; they made
their home in Grand Rapids.  She died Jan. 22, 1983.  He was married to Karen
Ely in 1983.  He was employed by several Grand Rapids furniture manufacturers.

Surviving are his wife, Karen, of Jackson; a stepdaughter, Tamy DuBois of
Jackson; one step granddaughter; three brothers, John and Skip of Jackson and
Monroe of Salyersville, Ky.; two sisters, Mrs. Roger (Madeline) Ely of Jackson
and Beverly Miller of Salyersville, Ky.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Leddick Funeral Home, with
the Rev. Ralph Barton of Walker Memorial Bible Church in Lansing officiating. 
Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home
Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
