Punches, 83, of Belding, passed away Saturday evening, November 8, 2014 at the home of her daughter under the loving care of her family and Faith Hospice. Ellen was born on November 19, 1930 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Howard J. and Mary E. (Driscoll) McGuire. Ellen graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1949 and in earlier years worked as a secretary for Dr. VanLoo in Belding and later for City Services Propane. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding and a longtime member of the American Legion Post 203 Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW Post 4406 Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a member of the 8 & 40 Club. In both Auxiliaries she had served as President and officer positions of both groups. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling. She loved sports and especially watching Notre Dame Football. In recent years she enjoyed watching her grandson coach football, wrestling and softball, watching television and family time. Ellen had a good sense of humor and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was married on October 4, 1952 in Belding to Edward Punches and he preceded her on October 1, 1995. Ellen was also preceded by her parents and one sister Betty Malone. Ellen is loved and survived by her children; Dave Punches of Belding, Nancy and Rick Dood of Lowell, her grandchildren; Matt Dood, Lauren Dood, her brothers; Jim McGuire of Belding, Howard “Joe” (Mary Helsel) McGuire of Grand Rapids, William “Bill” and Chris McGuire of TN, a brother in law; Alvin Malone of Grand Rapids and many nieces, nephews and special friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Father Mark Peacock officiating. Committal prayers will follow in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary or the Lowell Pink Arrow Project. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful nurses; Cindy, Jenny, Jill and Rachael of Faith Hospice who did so much for Ellen.
