Virginia Adele Roberts, age 97, passed gently into the arms of our Lord on, 
October 17, 2014.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She 
had a gift for making everyone whom she came in contact with feel special and 
loved.  She will be remembered for her strong Christian faith, her warm smile, 
wonderful sense of humor and generous spirit.  The Detroit Tigers have lost a 
devoted and faithful fan. 

She was born and lived in Ionia until her recent move to Waldon Woods Assisted 
Living facility in Grand Rapids.  She married her high school sweetheart, James 
J. Roberts, in 1938.  She was preceded in death by her parents; Harry and Ida 
(Reiger) Thwaites; husband, James J. Roberts; siblings: Harold, Howard, Melvin, 
and Fred Thwaites, Ida Speckin, Florence Lindholm, Helen Owens; granddaughter, 
Renee Rubino; son-in-law, Frank Rubino, and great-great-granddaughter Olivia 
Hulsebos. 

She is survived by her daughters, Sally Rubino and Karen (Ed) Weber; son, James 
(Linda) Roberts; 8 grandchildren, Richard (Nancy) Rubino, Julie (Richard) 
Freed, Leann Rubino, Brian (Diane) Reed, Gregg (Andrea) Reed, Melissa. Jhaymi 
and Christine Roberts; seven great-grandchildren, Korrine Wiseman, Kerri 
Hulsebos, Angelo Rubino, Daniel, Rebecca, Ashley and Nick Reed; great-great 
granddaughter, Aydin Rubino; and several nieces, nephews and special friends. 

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 22, 1 p.m. at Lake Funeral 
Home in Ionia with Pastor Dan Mouw officiating.  The family will be at the 
funeral home to greet friends and relatives three hours prior to the service.  
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Hospice.
