Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Mon. April 17, 1972

John Aaron Scholtens, 62, died Monday at Manatee Memorial hospital in 
Bradenton, Fla.

He was born December 10, 1909, in Ionia county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William 
Scholtens. July 7, 1928, he was married in Ionia and worked at Ypsilanti Reed 
Furniture company in the early 1940's.

He moved to Marquette where he was employed as chief engineer at the Michigan 
State prison in 1953. He later moved to Jackson as chief engineer at Southern 
Michigan prison in 1960 and retired in 1969.

He was a former member of Ionia Elks lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys, of Bradenton, Fla.;-Roetman fune two sons, 
Russell A. Scholtens of Traverse City and William R. Scholtens of LaMesa, 
Calif.; three grandchildren; three brothers, Ross Scholtens of Chelsa, Robert 
Scholtens of Ionia and George Scholtens of Detroit; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel 
Kienitz of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Evelyn Dion of Parchment.

Arrangements will be announced by Myers-Roetmen funeral home.
