Edward Shepard Jr., 85, of Six Lakes, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at 
his home.  He was born November 21, 1921 in Hastings to Edward and Augusta 
Thomas Shepard.

Mr. Shepard had been a resident of Six Lakes since 1996, formerly of Fenwick.  
He retired from Federal-Mogul Corp. in 1978.  In addition, he farmed for many 
years and also worked at Tuttle’s Sport Shop for 25 years.  He was a veteran of 
World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Force and was a member of 
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5065 of Sheridan.  He also belonged to the 
Flat River Antique Car Club.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his four daughters, 
Katherine Thayer, in 1985; two other wives, Kathleen Pearson and Ruth Witzel; 
two grandsons, Richard Barber and Timothy Barber; and a sister, Virginia Jensen.

He is survived by four daughters, Linda Barber of Six Lakes, Vicki and Dan 
Nickel of Belding, Mary and Wayne Waldron of Stanton, Joyce LaLone and Tim 
Mitchell of Belding; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one 
great-great-grandchild; two stepchildren, Robert and Velma Witzel, Connie and 
Bill Carr, all of Stanton; four step-grandchildren and several step-great-
grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Gesselman of Ionia.

Funeral services are 11 am. Friday at Simpson Family Funeral Home, Sheridan, 
with the Rev. Rolla Timmons officiating and military rites by VFW Post 5065.  
Interment is in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Ionia.  Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. 
today at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested 
memorial considerations to either the American Cancer Society Relay for Life or 
VFW Post 5065 in Sheridan.  Simpson Family Funeral Home is honored to serve the 
Shepard family with care and compassions during their time of loss and 
bereavement.
