Miss Lucille Swiler passed away at St. Lawrence hospital, Lansing, Saturday 
morning.  She was taken ill last February and in March underwent a sinus 
operation at Sparrow hospital.  She had somewhat recovered and went to the 
home of her uncle, A. J. Griffin, in Lansing, to await the time when she might 
return home.  A relapse followed and she was transferred to St. Lawrence 
hospital, where in spite of the best of care and two blood transfusions she 
continued to decline.

Miss Swiler was born on the farm of her grandfather, George Swiler, in Danby, 
14 years ago last December.  She attended the McKim school and last year came 
to Portland High as a freshman.  She was a bright and apt student and a 
favorite among her schoolmates.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Swiler, a brother, Harold, 
15, and a sister, Marlyn, 3.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church Monday at 2:30, Rev. R. 
V. Birdsall officiating.  Bearers, selected from Portland High, will be Deward 
Hartwig, Robert Holtz, Jack Starr, Charles Koelzer, Robert Smith, Junior 
Wheeler.
