Ionia Sentinel, Wednesday, September 15, 1880

Serious Accident - Mrs. Hannah Sykes, wife of Joseph Sykes, one of the oldest 
and most respected citizens of North Plains in this county while out riding on 
Sunday evening with her son, was stricken with paralysis, and died at 7:40 the 
same evening.  She was 54 years of age.  The funeral took place at 10 o’clock 
on Tuesday morning from the Union church, North Plains.
