The Portland Observer, Thursday, December 19, 1940

Jacob Visser, Portland contractor, who had been ill for more than a year, 
passed away at his home on west side, early Wednesday morning.  He had been a 
great sufferer and his death was not unexpected.

Mr. Visser was born in Wapenveld, Netherlands, in 1884 and came to Canada in 
1911.  He was married there and came to Michigan in 1923, and settled in 
Portland shortly afterward.  He had been a carpenter by trade in the old 
country and continued as a contractor all his life.

He is survived by Mrs. Visser and eight children; Mrs. Floyd Wainwright, Mrs. 
Raymond Raglin, Mrs. Robert Hazelwood, John, Henry, William, Jacob Jr., and 
Johanna.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at the Christian 
Reformed Church west of Portland, in charge of the Rev. L. Van Haitsma.  
Burial will be made in Portland, with Henry Hoort, Jacob Brandesen, Gerritt 
Smith, Henry Vandeveene, Cornelius Huizenga, and Wm. DeVries acting as bearers.
