She was born February 26, 1915 in Batavia, Java in the Dutch East Indies, the daughter of Thomas Archbold and Anna Walker Hayward Colter. She grew up in Fredonia, New York, where she attended high school and earned a teaching certificate at the State University of New York-Fredonia (then the normal school). She taught grade school in New York and Lansing. She matriculated to the University of Michigan and earned a bachelor’s degree in education. At the university she met Flint Clyde Watt of Ionia, a law student. They married on May 23, 1942 in Bloomfield Hills. They lived in Alabama and Kansas, while Flint served in the U.S. Army form 1941 to 1946. They settled in Ionia in 1945 where Flint practiced law until his death on February 22, 1979. She remained in Ionia until 1992, when she retired to Florida. In 1993 she suffered a stoke and moved to Chatham Senior Care. She was a member of the Ionia Country Club and was an avid bridge player, golfer, and reader. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Lee Schmitt of Helendale, California and Mary (Becky) Elizabeth (Phillip) Stotz of Springfield, Illinois; three sons, Flint C. (Patty) Watt II of Thompsonville, Stephen Watt of Grand Rapids, and Thomas (Connie) Watt of San Diego, California; eleven grandchildren, Scott Schmitt, Carrie Schmitt, Kurt Schmitt, Flint Watt III, Suann Watt, Mary Elizabeth Stotz Schlotte, John Stotz, Jessica Stotz Schaffhausen, Colter Watt, Lindsey Watt and Ryan Watt; two great granddaughter, Eryn Schlotte and Amara Schaffhausen; and sister-in-law, Aline Colter of Ionia. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Thomas Archbold Colter and one sister, Ann Dana Colter Washburn. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Jerene Houser officiating. A memorial gathering will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Staab Funeral Home.
