Welch, 88, the widow of A. Palmer Welch, died Saturday in Ionia Manor. She was born in South Haven July 8, 1892, the daughter of Alfred and Dora Beebe Kurkendall. She was married to A. Palmer Welch in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Kalamazoo October 17, 1917, and they made their home in Ionia after their marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Welch observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1967. He died Aug. 5, 1972. Mrs. Welch had been a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church for 42 years and was a charter member of St. John’s Guild and St. Barnabas Hospital Guild. She was also a long-time member of Ionia Women’s Literary Club. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. James (Jane) Mason Jr. of Dallas, Texas; two grand-daughters, and four great-grand-daughters; and by one brother, Perce Grey of Kalamazoo. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. from St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ionia, the Rev. Frederick L. Houghton, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brighton, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery. Memorials have been established for St. John’s Episcopal Church, in care of Leddick Funeral home.
