Whitelock, 67, of Ionia died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 1995 at his home. He was born the son of John and Mathilda (Huhn) Whitelock on July 29, 1928. He married Phyllis Erridge in 1952. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was honored with the Korean Service Medal, the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal. He worked as a custodial and maintenance man for the Ionia Public Schools, retiring in 1988. He worked many years as an auto body repairman. He was a member of the Ionia Moose and the VFW Post in Sheridan. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. Surviving are his wife Phyllis; sons: Thomas (Diana) Whitelock, of Ionia and Douglas (Carol) White, of Battle Creek; daughters; Lee Ann (Jim) Aikens, of Orleans and Sue (Randy) McCoy, of Ionia; seven grandchildren; Tracy (Rusty) Wickerink of Muir, Melissa (Larry) Taylor, of Ionia, Angie Aikens, of Orleans, Christopher McCoy, and Stacy, Stephanie and Ryan Whitelock all of Ionia; four great-grandchildren; brothers: Richard (Gloria) Whitelock, of Ionia and Fred (Linda) Whitelock, of Oklahoma; sister Virginia Vestal, of California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one great-grandson and one brother. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia with Father Charles Hall officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the Whitelock family.
