ADDIS, ALBERTSON, DERENBERGER, FANGBONER, HARRIS, READ, REED, RAUB, SNYDER, TEETER, WYCKOFF In the first half of the nineteenth century, settlers began to leave states along eastern seaboard for the Northwest Territory. In Warren County, New Jersey, many residents of the county settled in the Michigan Counties of Kent, Lapeer, Macomb and Oakland. Contact with families members back east was limited to letters. Theses letters reported to the "folks back home" on life on the new farms, crops the weather, and family events such as births, weddings and deaths. Occasionally the family in New Jersey passed on the news to the local newspapers. In Warren County, New Jersey, The Warren Journal carried obituary notices which sometimes included news about former county residents. What follows is eight obituaries from The Warren Journal, for the years 1849 through 1857, which were transcribed by Jan Reuther. These are for former Warren County residents who settled in Michigan and died there. Three are from Oakland County, three are from Macomb County, one is from Lapeer County and one is from Kent County.
