1889 reunion of the 24th Michigan Infantry

Survivors of the 24th Michigan Infantry

This photo was taken at the 1889 reunion of the 24th Michigan Infantry beside their monument on McPherson's Ridge at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The 24th suffered their highest casualties on this spot on the afternoon of July 1, 1863, while holding back the 26th North Carolina Infantry. They were later outflanked and suffered heavily before retreating to Cemetery Hill.
