Albert Eugene Terwilliger

Company B, 9th New York Heavy Artillery

Albert Eugene Terwilliger was born 21 Aug 1844 in Clayton, Lenawee, Michigan and died 19 Dec 1922 in Clayton, Lenawee, Michigan. He was in the 138th New York Infantry which was redesignated the 9th New York Heavy Artillery. He enlisted 14 Aug 1862 and was wounded in the shoulder at the Battle of Winchester 19 Sept. 1864. He was honorably discharged on 6 July 1865 in Washington, D.C.. He was a Private at muster in and was promoted to a Corporal on 1 Aug 1864.

He had 5 cousins of the 1st degree in Michigan regiments that I know of. They were Thomas D. Terwilliger and James Terwilliger, brothers and both in Company E of the 4th Michigan Infantry, another brother of Thomas and James, Charles F. Terwilliger, was in Company E of the 14th Michigan Infantry, and John G. Robb, a 1st Cousin of all of the mentioned Terwilligers who was in the Company F of the 4th Michigan Cavalry under the name John G. Rapp, service 1862-1863. He was also in Company D of the 18th Michigan Infantry as John G. Robb (reenlisted March 1865), and in Company D of the 9th Michigan Infantry (transferred when the 18th Mich. was mustered out), under John G. Robb (he is missing in your online roster of the 9th, but is listed by the National Park Service Soldiers and Sailors database).

Another 1st Cousin was Sgt. George Henry Prentiss/Prentice, who was in the 17th New York Infantry, the 37th New York Infantry, Company H of 7th Michigan Cavalry, and Company A of the 1st Michigan Cavalry (missing from your roster here). He was born in New York State in 1842 and died 24 Sept. 1907 in Lawton, Van Buren, Michigan. Sgt. Prentiss had 2 brothers in the Civil War in New York Regiments but they were born and died in New York and only served in New York Regiments.
